We all need each other. This site is my effort to share my efforts at sprouting and healthy food preparation. I need your input and support to keep me going in the right direction. Hopefully, together, we can accomplish what we can’t seem to do alone! – Jim B.
Jim B’s book, Sprouting: REVISED Beginners Guide to Growing Sprouts! is available worldwide and changing lives for the better daily! This site is dedicated to the principle of making small, permanent changes to our lives that can improve our overall health, vitality, and quality of life. Let’s all get better and live better… for real!
And the book that started it all (Still slightly cheaper!)
This post is the beginning of the process of sprouting. It’s an overview. There are follow-up posts to fill in the rest of the process. I hope it helps you! Please feel free to post comments, questions, and anything else you want!
Let’s start at the beginning. Getting started sprouting!
Get some sprouting seeds or beans
Soak them in water overnight
Drain them and spread them out in your container
Rinse 2 or 3 times a day
After 3 or 4 days, put them in a container and begin serving them
Wash your sprouting jar / tray and repeat steps 1 through 6
Of course, there’s a lot of learning to be done within those six steps. But, with a bit of care and very little effort, you can provide fresh, home-grown sprouts for every meal, every day. And it’s clean and easily done right on your kitchen counter. No dirt. No weeds. No digging in the hot sun.
You can maintain a high production of those wonderful sprouts year around, regardless of your climate, too. If you are a gardener, sprouting will come naturally to you.
And it happens with a crop harvest every four to five days!
Get some seeds – I recommend buying a humble bag of brown lentils. Costs less than a buck in most markets on the planet. Get organics you want, don’t if you don’t. This way you will have plenty to get started with, it takes about a fourth of a cup to grow a whole bunch of sprouts.
I recommend getting a good book on the subject, too. Of course, I recommend my book for a couple of reasons. First, it’s relatively cheap cost makes it easier to get started. Second, I present a simple, universally adaptable methodology for sprouting with a few new twists that the traditionalists have not thought of.
Finally, and this is the million dollar reason, I teach you to sprout while including an automatic re-start right when you harvest a batch. Once a batch is harvested, I have you clean it all up and start another batch. Over time, you can set the quantities of seeds you sprout to you and your family’s consumption rate.
I eat sprouts at every meal! I have developed a system to be sure I have plenty of sprouts harvesting right when I need them. Otherwise, if you sprout like all the other books tell you, you’ll harvest the first batch and then not even think about getting another batch started.
I meet lots of people who’ve said they tried it, but that the sprouter just went under the sink and never came out again. That’s my magic, here. Don’t EVER put it under the sink or anywhere away. LEAVE IT OUT. Keep it always sprouting.
OK, So much for the first step. I’ll add to this daily until we’ve covered the basics of How To Start Sprouting. Have fun! Go shopping and buy a bag of lentils.
And, of course, consider reading my book that just happens to be on this subject…. Thanks, Jim B
Here’s the Amazon link for the Revised Edition of my book! It will give you more information.
